How did the foundation get its name?
Our founder, Stephen Durkee, came up with the name after working in direct services with tens of thousands of low-income youth trying to go to college.  He felt it would serve two purposes, initially as a metaphor for our operations as it relates to FFABT's effort to develop foundations that allow people to exit poverty, and as a recognizable name as we grow to a point of serving as a grant-making entity for community organizations.

In light of the challenges of today, we have a lot of foundations to lay before we can get to that point.  However, we are always keeping in mind the long-term while working in the here and now.  Therefore, part of FFABT's goal is to take part of the operating revenue we generate (that is not a donor-program specific) and look to create a community fund for our census-track areas of high need.

FFABT Mission Statement
We operate to create and implement sustainable solutions that solve our current societal challenges in energy consumption, ecological impact, education access and performance, and job creation.  We utilize collaborative solutions to address current challenges, so we are able to expedite change and implement frameworks that dramatically increase the spending efficiency of publicly supported programs and entities. Ultimately, reducing or erasing state and federal deficits.

A Call to Action  “Rather than fear the future, we must embrace it. I have no doubt that America can compete — and succeed — in the 21st century. And I know as well that more than anything else, success will depend not on our government, but on the dynamism, determination, and innovation of the American people.”  - Barack Obama, Speech in Flint, Michigan, June 16, 2008
